I like Music. I actually love music. It’s motivates me towards change, it corrects me when I’m out of whack, and it makes me laugh and/or cry. Yet, the only musical ability I have is to turn the volume knob up and down.
In the past week, I’ve stumbled across a musician that I really enjoy. He’s a Christian who doesn’t exactly write Christian music. In fact, if you didn’t know anything about him, you would assume he’s NOT a Christian. I in no way, think I’m the only one to discover him, just that I most recently did.
Sufjan Stevens. He’s kinda an indie-rock, experimental, acoustic, oboe driven musician. Check him out and listen to some of his music. Particulary enjoyable songs for me are ‘Casimir Pulaski Day’, and ‘John Wayne Gacy, Jr.’. Yes, there is a song about John Wayne Gacy, JR; and it has the most blatant spiritual point of any song.
