Crazzzzy Campaign Ads

With the Texas Gubernatorial race heating up here in my neck of the woods, and all the campaign ads hitting the airwaves… I got to thinking. Surely there has to be some great Campaign videos out there on the great World Wide Web. And boy, are there!

Yes, I did vote for Bush both times; but the first line of this ad is the greatest.

Check out this Jerry Springer Gem. Moral of the Story: Don’t pay hookers with a check. Always pay with Cash.

1952 Adalia Stevenson Campaign Ad. This ad comes close to making me think I’ve been drugged. Maybe a history buff, can give us the background on Ike and Bob.

1976 Ford Campaign Ad. I wish more ads ended with “And that’s why I hope that, I don’t know. . .please think about it.”

1952 Nixon makes it clear what he thinks of corruption in the White House. How Comforting!

And my favorite over-the-top campaign ads come from the great Vernon Robinson. These are racy, and obnoxious. They remind me of those SNL Political Ad Parodies in the 90′s.(Which I can’t find on the internet for some reason.)
Vernon Robinson #1. I love pure HATE campaign ads, for the humor. This ad is kinda racy. These are always the best.

Vernon Robinson #2. Watch for the Key Words of Homosexuals, Liberals, God, Mexicans, and Racisim. Yep, this ad covers all the bases.

And this wouldn’t be complete without at least one pure parody. Enjoy!

Please remember that these ads in no way represent the ideals and values of the LittlePastor.

Living in this World

I was reminded this weekend of the scene in the movie Hotel Rwanda, when the Hotel manager tells one of the journalist covering the massacre that when the rest of the world sees the atrocities being committed in Rwanda, that people all over the world will come to their aid. In the scene, the journalist tell the hotel manager that when people around the world see these images on their televisions, they will simply say how horrible it is and then change the channel and go on with their lives. Are we not all guilty of proclaiming how horrible something is, then doing nothing about it? That is the American way, really.

Read some of the headlines over the past few weeks just in the grand olUSofA

Geesh, what are we coming to? I feel like I should do something, but don’t know what. But my super cynical mind tells me that there have always been atrocities in the world. I wonder sometimes if having 24-hour 365-days a year news just makes stories more accessible? I wonder if these horrible things happened for years, and the news never made it far out of their local news region?

But there are good things in this world too! And I’m certain these have never been headlines before. Headlines like this really make me glad to live in the world we do.

Vaccine aims to wipeout ear, sinus infections

As a parent of 3, this is good news. I cannot begin to explain to you what good, great news this is. Seriously, this is GREAT news! This vaccine alone, could eliminate a dozen Dr. visits a year! Think, I will rarely have to read 3 year old issues of Popular Mechanics in waiting rooms anymore.

Random Musings

It’s been months since I cleared my head of some random musings:

  • I’ve had this word that I can’t get out of my mind for over 3 weeks now. Genuine. I’ve been contemplating what it means to be a truly Genuine person. I was thinking about how the people I’m most drawn to are Genuine people. You know, the people most real and honest in the way they live their lives. The people who are the same genuine person, no matter the situation or environment. Are there any of these people left in the world? Because I have a hard time finding them, even in my own mirror.
  • I finished week 3 in my new running regime. I’m using the Couch-to-5k program from CoolRunning.com. It’s been a fun run, but I feel like the worst is yet to come.
  • This weekend I get to put Dallas in my rearview mirror. I’m headed to Missouri -Roaring River State Park, to do some fishing and golfing. To clarify, I’ll be fishing for trout and golfing for torture.
  • I got a new tech toy this week. Introducing the Cingular 3125. This little phone is awesome, giving me all the cool Windows Mobile things I desire, and still small enough to lose it just about anywhere.
  • I’ve finally gotten around to reading Blue Like Jazz, by Donald Miller. I’m about 100 pages into it, and I must say. I like it. I like it a lot. Growing up in ‘The Church’, I can relate to most of what he writes about. A very interesting read indeed.
  • And I want to introduce you to two blogs that I’ve been daily readers of for a few weeks now. I in no way endorse their content as a Pastor, but…. Check Them out. Indexed & Fireflies in the Clouds.

College Football Opinions

First, let me say that I am from Oklahoma. I casually root for all Oklahoma teams, just a geographical thing, I guess. I did not attend THE University of Oklahoma, but I did attend A University in Oklahoma. I was watching the Oregon/Oklahoma game this weekend. Great game, Oklahoma dominating the second half, then with 3 minutes to go in the game, Oregon comes roaring back to life. Long story made short…Oregon wins. During the last onsides kick that Oregon got possesion of, the play was quite controversial. In my humble opinion, the replay obviously shows that Oregon was wrong and Oklahoma should have the ball, with 40something seconds left. Guaranteeing Oklahoma the win. However, the instant replay officials saw the same video and came to a different conclusion. Interesting… After the game, nary a word about the controversy, or the subsequent pass interference controversy.

I thought it was funny that the Oregoneon Newspaper on Sunday Morning had hardly a mention of there being any controversy.

However the Tulsa World Newspaper was full of the controversy.

And at first the National media had no serious mention or discussion about the play, but finally today I see Oklahoma coach, Bob Stoops making public comments.

I only post these, to bring attention to the different perspectives. Funny how Oregon can dismiss such a controversy, and Oklahoma is left to explain what happened.

And Yes, If Oklahoma could play defense in the last 3 minutes this is all mute, I get it. Please do not send dirty emails my direction. I live in Texas now, anyways…
