Dallas Stars vs. LittlePastor

Last night I went to a Dallas Stars hockey game. I’m a big sports fan, and was real excited about attending the game. The tickets were given to me by someone who attends our church, and they were GREAT tickets, somewhere over the $200 face value for each ticket. In other words, they were not the variety of ticket that the LittlePastor would fork money over for. These were a real gift! They gave me 4 tickets so I took my wife, and another couple to the game.

We had a great dinner near the American Airlines Center at RJ’s Mexican Cuisine. (I mean a really, really great dinner; I highly recommend to my Dallas readers.) Then headed over to the Platinum Club in the AAC for the game. When we arrived at our seats, the adventure really began. Someone was sitting in our seats, and I waited for the usher to kindly help them find their correct seats. Seems that was where the trouble began. See these people in my seats, actually had the same tickets I did. Seemed that they bought their tickets online through DallasStars.com; and the Dallas Stars had sold them our seats. So we were told to go sit in the handicapped section next door, while the Platinum concierge took care of the issue. The man who came to help, told both myself and the man who also had seat tickets in my section to follow him. We both inquired as to why we had to go somewhere, but he insisted even thought the game had started and was into the 1st period. We followed him around 1/2 the arena and down multiple floors until we got to the Ticket Box Office. The entire time, we were neither told where we were going, or why we were going with him. I felt like maybe the authenticity of my tickets was in question, and I was being treated like a criminal. We were also being dragged away from a game, that I had been entitled to watch with my tickets. After much discussion behind the box office window, I was handed my tickets back, and told the seats were mine; meaning the other individual was given additional tickets in a section nearby. When I inquired as to if we would receive any compensation for having missed 15 minutes of the 1st period (Not actual minutes, GAME MINUTES), to a game that we had tickets to, I was told that I had what I needed and was directed to my seat.

I find this entire experience extremely frustrating and very unreasonable. When I have tickets of this value in my possession, I expect to be able to watch a hockey game; not be dragged down to a ticket office, and have a large percentage of the game experience stolen from me by a mistake that the Dallas Stars ticket office made in the first place. I was treated like someone who had done something wrong, not like someone who had very expensive tickets in my hand. Is this a common way of dealing with this situation? The procedures used to deal with these types of problems need some serious oversight and review. Why should I have to leave my seat? Why was the process not explained to me? Why did I not receive an apology? Why was I treated like I did something wrong? Things like this make me wonder if the people in charge, have ever taken a customer service training in their entire lives.

The game was fun, at least the two periods I saw were fun. The Stars won 4-1, scoring on some power plays and scoring it into an empty net as time expired. I took some pics on my camera phone, but they aren’t very good.

I did email the VP of Operations for the Stars last night, so I’ll keep everyone updated on what they do to remedy my frustrations. I’m hoping for some free tickets for a future game!

Sweating in the Spirit

This video scores high on the ‘Unintentional Humor Scale.’ It’s almost like a SNL skit making fun of Christians, but it’s REAL!

Leave it to some Christians to try turning a buck by combining aerobics and worship.
From this item’s marketing info:

“When Sweating in the Spirit, you are not focused on the typical thoughts of calories burned, toning your thighs or the screaming thought of “when does this workout end,”…quite the opposite. Sweating in the Spirit ushers you into a time of dance and praise before God. Our body is on loan to us…and Sweating in the Spirit is a step towards honoring and taking better care of our bodies–our temples.”

Christmas Movie Madness

Had a great Christmas trip to Oklahoma to spend some time with the family. While I was with family, I was afforded something I rarely get here in Dallas… Free Babysitting. As a result I was able to see three movies this week, and all of them at the theatre no less. If you have children, and live in a city with relatives to watch your kids at various times, then you can NOT relate to my frustration. I have three kids, and paying a babysitter for 3-4 hours so my wife and I can go out is sometimes more expensive than the dinner and the movie. So I enjoyed the presence of grandparents and got away a few times to watch some movies.

Some Random Movie Thoughts:

  1. When did movies start charging $9.00 a ticket? Am I that old? $9.00 is CRAZY!
  2. Is there anything more annoying that sitting by Jr.High students during a movie? I’m sure I was the same way when I was 14, but geesh!
  3. Is it unrealistic that if I go to see a movie that is listed as starting at 10:30pm, that I should expect it to start close to 10:30pm? The movie that was supposed to start at 10:30pm, actually started at 10:55pm after 25 minutes of previews and commercials. When the movies are going on 2 hours long, I don’t want to lose that 25 minutes.
  4. And at $9.00 a ticket, should I be forced to watch Coca-Cola ads and previews for what’s coming on TV in the new Spring Season? Just give me two or three movie previews and get on with the business of the actual movie.
  5. With all the movie trivia that exist out there, couldn’t the movie theatres come up with more than a 7 minute loop of trivia for pre-movie entertainment? Although it can make you look smart when you wife has been in the bathroom, and doesn’t know that you already saw who was the boom mic operator for Citizen Kane.
  6. I saw ‘We Are Marshall‘, and my only question is… Why is the director named McG? In what alternative universe is the name ‘McG‘ acceptable?
  7. Will Smith was great in ‘Pursuit of Happyness‘, but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a more depressing movie. I mean, even though it ended on a high note, I couldn’t get over all the terrible things that happened to this man. At one point, I started to think that if him and his boy just got hit by a bus, at least their suffering would be over. And I’m not normally that depressing.
  8. And finally, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by Rocky Balboa. It is truly a great movie. It’s sad that so many will not go see it because it’s Rocky 6. It’s wonderful, and makes you leave the theatre happy. What more could you ask for out of a movie?

Snowman Humor

This Christmas I noticed a snow globe at my parent’s house in Oklahoma. It’s a snowman warming his hands over a campfire. This is disturbing, isn’t it? Would it be wrong to call such a snowman slightly suicidal?

I found some other such snowmen online, pictures posted below.

Santa is a Jerk

I post this as I listen to my children watch ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeeer’ for the 100th time! And I’ve always felt Santa was a little unstable in this television special.
