Thou Shalt Not Covet

With the move to the new church, I was presented with a ‘church’ phone. I’ve never had a phone given to me by who I work for. The problem was I currently had a service agreement with Cingular/ATT (Whatever…), and the church phone was with Sprint. So I cancelled my service agreement with ATT and started using my free Sprint phone. Nice little perk!

Then I start hearing the hype surrounding the new iPhone. Being that it’s on ATT, I will not have an option to own such a beast of technological genius. I will be without. I know there are hurting people all over the world, but I still weep for the new iPhone. Am I weird or what?

Not that I could afford it, or it’s service plans; but just knowing I can’t have it brings me some level of pain.

I am definitely drooling on the sidelines over this iPhone. But then I read Mike Metzger’s words on this, and it brought me down to earth. He is a fellow from the Clapham Institute.

    I posted them here:
    “What might the iPhone undo?”

I wish I had written this, it is so tight!

I think his thought are a bucket of cold water. I am not saying that after reading his article, that I wouldn’t buy an iPhone, but that I need to ask thoughtful questions about the technology in my life, before I just rush to embrace it. Tell me what ya think.
