Scared of the dark

My kids are all very good sleepers, but there are always exceptions. Last night, my middle child, Dylan was scared of something. What exactly he was scared of I’m not quite sure. Maybe the dark, maybe the night light, maybe the huge blow up inflatable ball pit his Mother put in their room last night, who knows…

But at 2:30am, my son is panicking and needing some comfort. So I sit on the couch until he calms down, and then lay him in his bed. After getting back to my bed, and getting all settled in, I hear his cries again. So I get up and sit on his bed for a few minutes, until I’m certain he’s gone back to sleep. After getting back to my my bed, and getting settled in, I hear his cries again. Let’s just say this repeated for 45 minutes, before I just got in bed with him. Which of course has left me with the worst crick in my neck that I’ve ever had!

I can remember when my kids first started having nightmares, it was so scary for me. What could be so horrible? We don’t watch scary-type movies, nor have my kids ever really been scared of something in real life, but they would wake up screaming and kicking and sweating in a total panic. I’ve always wondered if maybe they’re having nightmares that Mommy put grape jelly on their PB&J instead of strawberry!

Maybe it’s a spiritual attack. Have you sat down and explained how powerful the name of Jesus is and that anything that’s not of him has to flee when they say it does?
