An Event Gone Bad

August 7, 2007 — Leave a comment

I spend a good portion of my life planning events. In fact I even majored in Event Management in college, so I know a thing or to about convention and special event management. While in Tulsa this past weekend, I heard about a near catastrophe during the 35th Annual Pontiac Oakland Convention.

Basically during the last day of the convention all the cars on display got paint sprayed on them. But not by a vandal, they got sprayed by some work crews painting a downtown building during the convention. The bad part is that at car shows besides displaying the cars, they also are required to have the hood up and one window rolled down. So paint got inside the cars, on the engines and on the exterior. So who pays for something like this? And does the insurance company know that some of these cars are priced well over $100k each?!?

These things are an event planners worst nightmare! How could you possibly avoid something like this happening?
