Vacation

This week and into the weekend we’re on a little mini-vacation. I took the family up to Oklahoma (8 hours in the car!) and we are enjoying some time with grandparents. My dad has a boat, which is almost as popular with my kids as Elmo! Every Summer my kids get more and more brave, and this year I was able to get my oldest son Ryan to do something more than sit on the tube behind the boat while it trolled around the lake. We got the boat going pretty fast while Ryan and I were on the tube. He was just screaming, “No, No, No, No!!” the entire time. But after a few seconds he figured out it wasn’t as scary as he thought it would be; and then it was fun.

Being out with my family this week, as made me so grateful that I work in an environment that encourages vacation! It’s always fun to visit family, but sometimes vacations are more about where you are NOT than they are about where you ARE.

I grew up on the river and my dad would do figure 8′s with us on the tube, speeding up only to slow down as we flew over the wake. Fun until you get a rope burn on your face…and are nicked named “scar face”…I think those trips are what really brought us together as a family.
