48 Days Until Easter

Easter is 48 days away. This is my first Easter in Lubbock, TX so I’m a newbie with “the way we do things here.” In years past the church has rented out the United Spirit Arena and hosted 6,000 to 8,000 people in one big mass Easter service. Well with Easter being earlier in the year, and coming the Sunday after Spring Break; we’ve decided to hold it on campus. A normal Sunday morning for us is 3 services, but for Easter we’re cranking it up to 4 services.

Disclaimer: For those of you looking in from the outside you need to now that there are literally thousands that will attend church on this one particular day of the year. Maybe it’s a favor for their mothers, or maybe they get their ‘religious fix’ for the entire year on this weekend.

The great thing is that we get the opportunity to have children’s programming for all 4 Easter services, since we are having services on campus. In other words, the kids get to learn too! This is wonderful and exciting news for all my staff and I, however the thought of staffing 4 services with average adult attendance of 1,000 people is frightening. Over the next 48 days the details will be hammered out, and we will be as effective as possible ministering to so many one-time-a-year kids. From this far out, I can clearly see that Jesus will need to help me! Now, if only I could get him to teach my 3 year old A-L classroom during the 9:15 service!
