This morning I was in a breakout with Reed Dickens. Reed is the former White House Press Secretary for George W.
His breakout was “The Art of Communication.”
Here are some of my favorites thoughts:
-Communication is simply understanding people and executing a conversation.
-How people receive a message is more important than what is said.
-There were two thoughts on being a more effective communicator:
1. Be Likeable
2. Be Reasonable
-Don’t be intellecutally dishonest, and don’t be afraid to concede when necessary.
-Making concessions will build credibility. Concede the obvious points, and move on.
-Only 7% of communication are words. The rest are tone of voice and body language.
-We can’t be an expert on everything. Stay between the boundries of what you don’t know and what’s inappropriate.
and finally…
All communication should be clear, concise, and compelling.
