Archives For October 2010

I’m always on the lookout for great Kidmin music for my church and family.  I want things that are useable in our church environments, and I want music that my kids love to listen to.  In very few have I found this great combination, and one of them is with Yancy.  She’s fantastic, and I’ve been using her DVD’s and music for years now!
I highly recommend anything she’s done and she’s got something great coming your way!

She is releasing a totally new album this very next week and I’d like to help Yancy get the word out. Of course, I want you to buy the CD/DVD, but I want you to also tell people about it!  Come on people, when you have something great you have to tell others, right?!

Here’s what you need to do.

  1. Listen to the album now by clicking here!
  2. Get a free download of the song “Make it Loud” by clicking here (I think you need to have twitter, but it would be worth signing up for twitter to get the song).

Yancy Offers Up ‘Stars, Guitars and Megaphone Dreams’ on November 2nd

(NASHVILLE, Tennessee) – Combining praise and worship with her unique pop/rock sensibilities, Yancy returns with her latest album Stars, Guitars and Megaphone Dreams, available everywhere on November 2nd.

With a decade under her belt, and countless credits to her name, Yancy has proven herself to be one of Christian music’s most versatile performers. As a recording artist, Yancy has released radio friendly pop/rock albums, a rocking Christmas collection and multiple projects for kids and young adults, all while sharing the stage with such artists as Mute Math, Newsboys, 4Him and Nichole Nordeman. As a writer, Yancy has teamed up with Third Day’s Mac Powell, wrote Avalon’s #1 hit “I Don’t Want To Go” and Jaci Velasquez’s “Something Beautiful,” and still found the time to compose two devotional books for worship leaders and musicians and a devotional book for pre-teens.

Widely recognized as a top worship leader at numerous conferences and conventions, Yancy also helped launch the nationwide Kings & Princesses events with her dad (and veteran children’s pastor) Jim Wideman. These unique events are created for Dad’s and their elementary age daughters, creating a fairy tale night that will strengthen father and daughter relationships.

“I started off doing more traditional CCM-type of music performing at a lot of youth groups, festivals and ministry events, but then I got involved in leading worship in a local church setting,” explains Yancy. “I’ve often joked I’ve led worship with every age from birth to death, but through that, I gained ton of experience and knowledge.”

At the end of the day, Yancy hopes that her music will encourage people and help them understand that they’re here for a purpose. “We all have different talents and abilities that God wants to use,” says Yancy. “And I make it a point to remind people to go after their dreams with all they’ve got.”

Yancy maintains a full-time tour schedule including conferences and conventions throughout the USA, and this fall, she will return to Christ In Youth’s successful preteen event SuperStart! as the featured artist for the 2010-2011 national tour.

The first radio single from Stars, Guitars and Megaphone Dreams, “Don’t Stop,” is currently being worked to AC and CHR formats by Jason Miller at Lion Chaser Entertainment.

Go Rangers!

October 27, 2010 — Leave a comment

Last week was a great one for this lifelong Texas Ranger baseball fan.  I’m not one of these fans that has just recently jumped on the bandwagon.  Ask Sam Luce, I’ve tortured myself for years by allowing it to be public knowledge that I root for the Texas Rangers.  I grew up listening to Norm Hitzges call games on KTVT-TV out of Dallas.  I’ve seen Nolan Ryan pitch three times (losing all three.)  I’ve had my current Rangers batting practice jersey for years now, not something pulled off the rack this week.  I even have a Michael Young bobblehead in my office!  I’m hard-core Rangers, and for the first time in my 34 years I can say that without being embarrassed!

Well last week they did what all Ranger fans have thought was an impossibility.  They won the pennant.  It was a tear-inducing moment for this Ranger fan!  Josh Hamilton, Cliff Lee, and Elvis Andrus are great to watch; throw in our long-time favorite in Michael Young and Nolan Ryan sitting in the press box as owner…Crazy fun!  As I prepare to root for the hometown team this week in the World Series I want to share some Rangers greatness with you!

What is the Claw and Antlers?

A great outfield perspective on the greatest called strike in ALCS history! (I almost cried again just watching this!)

A fantastic photo slide show of that last night in the ALCS.

I don’t care that the Yankees have won 27 World Championships.  The Rangers are in the Fall Classic and this Ranger fan will be front and center taking it all in!  For the record,  I take Rangers in the first 3 game sweep of the World Series in history.  Giants will forfeit that last game to avoid the humiliation any further!

Loved and Loving

“Although children’s “outsides” may have changed a lot over the years, their inner needs have remained very much the same. Society seems to be pushing children to grow faster, but their developmental tasks have remained constant.

No matter what lies ahead, children always need to know that they are loved and capable of loving.”

I hacked jonathancliff.com

October 22, 2010 — 2 Comments

So, I’ve managed to hack into Jonathan Cliff’s blog. This was the easiest hack job ever. Here are the steps I followed:

1. I went to: www.jonathancliff.com/wp-admin

2. for user name I typed in ”JeremyCliff” … that’s Jonathan’s pen name

3. for the password… it was really easy to guess… I used this text “ILovetheYankees.” Apparently Jonathan is a huge fan!

4. I went to CMConnect to talk trash about hacking into blogger’s accounts.

So, keep this quiet… don’t tell Jonathan….

Michael Chanley

Illuminate Conference

October 21, 2010 — 1 Comment

Calling all KIDMIN volunteers in the Austin, TX area!  I wanted to let you know about a special event being held at Gateway Church in Austin that is specifically for those volunteers and staff that work with kids at your churches.  It’s a great idea by Kenny Conley and his fantastic team at Gateway; to try and make an affordable and high-quality event for those that make KIDMIN happen each weekend in our churches.

It’s the Illuminate Conference and you should be there if you are in or around Austin.  Here are 6 reasons that you should be there:

  1. Craig Jutila is the main session speaker.  This guy has more experience in his couch cushions then I do in my entire KIDMIN existence.  Craig is great to hear live, and you will be blessed, encouraged, challenged, and leave a better person for hearing what he has to share!
  2. Michael Chanley is one of the breakout speakers.  Michael is to KIDMIN what the pony express those pioneering the wild west.  He’s been bringing people together through cmconnect.org and imakidmin.com for years, and I know you will love his breakout.
  3. Sam Luce is also a breakout speaker.  Sam will sadly be depressed this weekend, due to his Yankees falling to the Rangers the week before; but I believe he’ll still have his A+ game.  Sam is the “most loved Kidmin expert in America”, and I’d love to be a fly on the wall when he leads his Elementary Small Group Leader interactive lunch breakout.  Don’t miss it!
  4. It’s in Austin, Texas.  If being in Texas wasn’t great enough, you get to now be in the capital.
  5. The Gateway Church KIDMIN team is hosting the entire event, and they are worth getting to know!
  6. It’s only $25 per person and it’s on a weekend!  There is no excuse to NOT take your volunteer team to this conference if you are in the Austin area!

I’ll be there as well, and if you are in the area then you should go and register today!

Illuminate Conference

Saturday, Novmeber 6th

9:00 AM – 3:15 PM

Two General Sessions with Craig Jutila

Two Breakout Sessions geared to volunteer specific needs

A Chipotle lunch

An experience your team wont soon forget

All this for just $25 a person.
