Dreaming of More Book Review

As a big fan of all things “Family Ministry” I’ve had a great opportunity to read Michelle Anthony’s new book, Dreaming of More for the Next Generation: A Lifetime Faith ignited by Family Ministry.  I’ve been digesting this book for the past month, and I’m telling you…this book is a game-changer.  It’s been one of the more thought provoking books I’ve read in a long time.  Dreaming of More has helped me probe my own expectations of what a successful Family Ministry looks like, and has introduced some new angles that I’ve never thought about.

Specifically I loved the emphasis on teaching kids and students to respond to the Holy Spirit.  This is a totally forgotten trend in Family, Children, and Student ministry.  We don’t always teach our kids how to listen, wait patiently, and individually respond to the Holy Spirit leading them.  It’s not some  charismatic, holy-roller concept; it’s the Bible.

I’d love to give away one of the books, and you can enter your name in the drawing below!

We make sure our small group times at the end of service have “free time” built in to leave space for whatever the holy spirit wants to do

At the end of our small group time, we let the kids say their prayer requests.  We pray and ask the Holy Spirit to come and fill us and use us.

Letting kids say their prayer requests is the easiest way possible to get kids to be “spirit led.” It’s funny that more don’t allow this…
