“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

I’ve been a big fan of all the information, dialouge, and challengs that come out of epicparent.tv for a long time. Chris Spradlin is someone I’ve met, beyond just email; and his transparancy is the real deal.  Chris isn’t a perfect parent, and if you read his blog that much will become obvious real quick. Saying Hello

August 15, 2012 — 4 Comments

It’s been a long and strange summer for the Cliff family.  This spring we began to feel the Lord opening a door for us to transition out of Lubbock.  It was not something we really expected to happen so soon; but after a few strong confirmations we started to move towards the idea of change.  Then began the journey of a lifetime.

We thought we sold our house, and then lost a buyer to a marriage reconciliation (long story, trust me.) We then thought we’d never sell our house, only to have a cash-offer, get out as fast as you can deal that has left us living in hotels for the past 3 weeks.  Add all of that to multiple conversations over the phone, more than one questionairre filled out, different interviews that took me all across the country, and some serious soul searching about what was next for our family. All of that leading us to one special place.

This is happening. Our family is packing up, buckling in, and heading to Athens Church in Athens, Georgia. I’ve accepted the position of Director of Family Ministries, and have the privilege to lead what is already a fantastic team of life-changers. Over the past 3 months we’ve been on a search for a place that we could fully invest ourselves, and to do so with the greatest chance to impact families and the community they live in.  There is a ton yet to learn, and a lot of people to get to know; but we are so excited to find a group of like-minded people that have a serious passion for reaching the unchurched families in their city.

Stay tuned as we begin to transition to this new and exciting part of our lives.

Saying Goodbye

If you were at Trinity Church this weekend, you probably heard the news of our family’s departure from Lubbock and the great church that we’ve served at over the past 5 years.

Here are some important things that everyone should know:

Trinity Church is a wonderful church serving in a great community. They’ve been here going on 50 years, and the future is bright. There are lost people finding Christ every weekend, and the investment that Trinity has made (and continues to make) is a big one.

Trinity Church loves children, students, and the families that love them. Don’t believe me? Take a minute to check out what’s happening right now on the campus of Trinity. www.beyondtrinity.com Trinity has committed $7 Million dollars towards the Next Generations growing up in Lubbock, TX.

The leadership of Trinity is strong. How strong? Strong enough that I went to them in May and shared the burden God had laid on our hearts to transition, and they supported me and paid me to remain with them until that position opened up. This is a great testimony of secure leadership.

Every bit of success I’ve had on nearly every church level, is 100% related to the opportunities Trinity Church has given me and our family. They’ve loved me, supported me, and given me freedom to grow in ways I had only dreamed about 5 years ago.

I wish there was a way to write words more rich than this about our family’s experience at Trinity Church in Lubbock, TX.  I’ve had a ton of opportunity to grow here, but the richest investment made from this church is in the level of passion they’ve demonstrated to my children. My kids have had wonderful teachers, small group leaders, and mentors the entire time we’ve been here…and that right there is what we are taking with us. The investment made in our family will stay forever, and will reap a great reward for our future.

Thank you Trinity and thank you Lubbock, Texas.
